Department of Physics at P. R. Thakur Govt. College embarked on its academic journey in 2015, under the affiliation of West Bengal State University (WBSU). Honours course (1+1+1 system) was introduced in 2016 and subsequently in 2018, Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) have been implemented. In 2023, the National Education Policy (NEP) was adapted by WBSU to foster interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking and skill-based training.

Courses offered:

• Undergraduate Honours course (B.Sc.) in Physics (CBCS).
• B.Sc. 4 year Honours / Honours with Research in Physics (NEP).
  

Infrastructure and Resources:

• Four (4) laboratories, including a Linux-operated Computational laboratory.
  
• Laboratory infrastructure includes facilities to perform experiments in key areas of Modern Physics and Communication Electronics.
