Away from the fretful stir of the city, amidst a lush green pollution-free nature there stands a seat of learning, P. R. Thakur Government College. It is located at Thakurnagar, on the northern fringe of North 24 Parganas district, just 70 kilometers away from Kolkata. The College, affiliated to West Bengal State University, started its journey on the 3rd day of August, 2013. From its inception the College had been running its activities at the temporary venue of Thakurnagar High School. In 2015, the establishment had been shifted to its new academic and administrative buildings situated in an expansive campus area of nearly 7 acres.

With an unfailing support and active initiative from the Department of Higher Education, our institution is providing a relentless service to promote the concept of pursuing higher education among the people residing in its locality. We feel proud to acknowledge that the Government. of West Bengal has taken every care to set up a Goverment college here in loving memory of Pramatha Ranjan Thakur, a noble soul who dedicated his life for the upliftment of the downtrodden people by providing them education. This college is going ahead to fulfill his dream and is already on its way to establish itself as a premier centre of learning in state of West Bengal.

As the head of the institution, I would like to take the opportunity to convey my sincere thanks and gratitude to all administrative and social Institutions as well as neighbouring people who joined hands with us and extended every support during the last ten years to fulfill the ‘Golden project’ of the Government. I sincerely hope that in the not-too-distant future, P. R. Thakur Govt. College will reach the pinnacle of glory as a model educational institute of excellence.
